The possibility in pausing
“The space between where you are and where you want to be is where leadership lives.”
— Brené Brown
Design thrives in motion. But it deepens in stillness.
I've spent the past year immersed in The Possibility Principle of Design. Exploring how we lead change, shape systems, move with intention in a world that seems hell-bent on urgency over meaning. It's been energizing work.
And now I'm stepping away for a while.
This pause isn't just for rest. Though honestly, I could use some of that too. It's for returning to the creative in-between. The space between now and next. That's where the real work lives.
For the next few weeks, I'll be offline. Not to disconnect, but to reconnect. To purpose, to direction, to the questions that matter most. The ones I've been too busy writing about to actually sit with.
When I return after the summer, I'll bring new material from the book. More field notes. More lived reflections. More ways of designing not just for what's coming, but for what could be.
Because the Possibility Principle isn't about pushing harder. It's about designing from within the in-between. The moment where we stop long enough to see clearly and lead forward with intention.
Which, apparently, I need to practice what I preach about.
Thank you for following the journey. I'll be back soon.
Until then, protect the pause. That's where possibility begins.
This is part of my ongoing exploration of The Possibility Principle of Design.
